Citizen of Planet Earth:
For a Global Referendum

Click the spinning globe to see the Blog.

Every person who is alive today is a citizen of planet Earth. A fundamental right of each citizen is the right to vote. This web site is an experiment on a mechanism by which a binding, verifiable global referendum could take place.

In the BACKGROUND pages:

  • The Assumptions link goes to a description of the minimal requirements for a global referendum to be considered valid and binding.

  • The link to Registration Rules describes how a citizen becomes a registered voter, and how a citizen can then gain permission to serve as a voter registrar.

  • The next BACKGROUND link goes to some thoughts about a World Constitution.

  • Once a World Constitution is ratified, what issues will be on ballots for further global referenda? Perhaps the next referendum will be for immediate, worldwide demilitarization. See the link to Second Ballot.

  • The Vital Signs link leads to a list of web sites with information about the planet's material resources, and signs that humanity is crashing against the limits of these resources.

The links for DATABASES go to information about registered voters, voting locations, and ballots. These are some of the tools that could make a binding, verifiable global referendum possible, and will be tested in a series of pilot referenda.

The wildcard in this experiment is the Internet. How quickly can we, the citizens of planet Earth, use this tool to help restore balance to the planet's ecosystems while providing a high quality of life for all of humanity?

The interest that was expressed in the first pilot referendum, which took place May 4, 2010, was insufficient to proceed with a citywide pilot in the summer of 2010.

The Question - If there was a way to hold a global referendum, where everyone on the planet could vote on the same issue at the same time, what would be the most important issue to have on the ballot?

One effort to conduct a global referendum is already taking place at http://voteworldparliament.org/

This effort was organized by Jim Stark, a Canadian citizen and the author of
cover of Rescue Plan book

Yet another effort to develop an Internet-based democratic voting system on global issues is at http://www.theglobalvote.org
